With so many lithe and lovely Ultrabooks making their way through PC Pro's Labs, the dull grey of Acer's Aspire 5750G is enough to send anyone crashing back to earth. What Acer's budget 15.6in laptop lacks in looks, however, it more than makes up for with a generous specification: with a Core i3 CPU and a dedicated Nvidia graphics chipset, this £430 Acer crams in a huge amount for the money. Acer Aspire 7551G-5407 battery charging
It's a solid, sturdy laptop with a drab, mottled-grey interior and darker grey lid, broken up by a wash of glossy black around the screen and hinge. The large keyboard has well-spaced keys and a solid base beneath its flat-headed keys, and there's a numeric keypad, too. The touchpad is quite small, and the rocker-style buttons feel muffled when clicked, but on the whole it's a comfortable laptop to use for long periods. Acer Aspire 7551G battery charging

Those periods won't be as long as the best here, but a light-use battery charging life of 6hrs 9mins is still exceedingly good. Acer Aspire 7551-3634 battery charging That's due, in the main, to Nvidia's Optimus technology, which automatically switches to the low-power graphics when appropriate. For more intensive tasks, the discrete Nvidia GeForce GT 540M chip roars into life. In the Crysis test at Medium quality settings, the Acer managed an impressive average of 36fps. It will comfortably play the many less demanding games released since Crysis first arrived to torment graphics cards. Acer Aspire 7551-5358 battery charging
The rest of the specification is perfectly acceptable budget fare. The 2.1GHz Core i3-2310M and 6GB of RAM are powerful enough to earn the Acer a result of 0.55 in our Real World benchmarks, and the 640GB hard disk is a welcome sight, too. Acer Aspire 7551-3416 battery charging
The 15.6in 1,366 x 768 screen is impressively bright, with a maximum brightness level of 261cd/m2 putting it well ahead of most budget laptops. Contrast still isn't particularly strong - the 196:1 contrast ratio is merely average - but colours are pretty accurate and the glossy finish doesn't prove too reflective under normal usage. Acer Aspire 7551-3068 battery charging

Connectivity is ample. There's one USB 3 port on the right edge, and two further USB 2 ports. It has both D-SUB and HDMI outputs on the left-edge. There's a card reader for all the major formats - including the less common xD-picture - on the tapered front edge, and there's a 1.3-megapixel webcam embedded into the display's bezel. Bluetooth is the only major omission. Acer Aspire 7551-2755 battery charging
This Acer doesn't have the fastest processor, and it's battery charging life isn't quite as good as the very best we've seen. But, for just £430, we'd gladly swap finesse and a little stamina for an almost perfect all-rounder. It isn't flashy in the slightest, but at this price, the Acer Aspire 5750G makes itself worthy of a place on the PC Pro A-List. Acer Aspire 7551 battery charging

Thanks to its dedicated Nvidia GeForce GT 540M graphics card, the replacement battery for Acer Aspire 5750G is far quicker in games than most budget laptops. The rest of its specification doesn't suffer either. Its budget Intel CPU is backed up by 6GB of RAM and a generous 640GB hard disk, while the only surprise in its expansion ports is the inclusion of a single USB3 port that caters for faster external disks. replacement battery for Acer Aspire 7251

It's a shame, then, that the 5750G's design is starting to look dated, having the same dark grey and black colour scheme that we've seen over the last couple of years. It's slim and it feels reasonably well built, but it doesn't really stand out next to more modern shiny metallic finishes or Mac-inspired whites. At 2.6kg, it's not the lightest laptop either, so you won't want to lug it around much. replacement battery for Acer Aspire 5755ZG

The performance from the Intel Core i3-2310M is slightly below average, but it's decent enough. Two physical cores and Hyper-Threading let the 5750G run multiple applications well, and an overall score of 42 means that you should be able to run most applications; only heavy multimedia editing will slow this laptop down. replacement battery for Acer Aspire 5755Z

An Nvidia GeForce GT 540M graphics chip provides enough power to decode HD videos and play most games. A score of 39fps in our Dirt3 benchmarks is impressive at this price, but if you like playing action-oriented games, such as first-person shooters, you may have to turn down some graphical settings to get playable frame rates. Despite having Nvidia's Optimus technology, which switches to the integrated graphics chip in order to save power, its life is around five hours, which is relatively typical. replacement battery for Acer Aspire 5755G

You'd be well advised to invest in a decent headset too, because the 5750G's speakers aren't very loud and lack bass. Unlike other laptop speakers, however, they actually have some mid-range response, which means that the sound isn't completely tinny. The headphone port supports headsets, so it's ideal for those who use Skype a lot. replacement battery for Acer Aspire 5755

More of a concern is the screen. replacement battery for Acer Aspire 5750ZG The 15.6in display has a widescreen 1,366x768 resolution, but despite having a bright and even backlight, it has a strong yellow-green cast that dulls colours. Like most laptop screens, it also suffers from poor vertical viewing angles. This, in addition to a glossy finish that reflects overhead lights, means that you'll end up having to adjust the tilt of the screen carefully to get the right balance of contrast and colour accuracy. Sadly, the latter is elusive because the screen's cast turns reds to orange and makes greens seem too yellow. replacement battery for Acer Aspire 5750Z

We've seen Sandy Bridge laptops emerge from almost every major manufacturer since Intel unveiled its second generation processor earlier this year. While these laptops have differed wildly in look and size, from the tiny Samsung 9000S to the hulking Dell XPS 17, we've found that performance is consistently excellent. replacement battery for Acer Aspire 5750TG
Now it's replacement battery for Acer's turn to join the Sandy Bridge club, with the Aspire 5750G. It looks like a typical replacement battery for Acer machine on the outside, with the Taiwanese giant's standard design in place, but inside it's brimming with power.
Best of all, the £680 asking price is rather low considering the tight specs. If you're a student with high demands, or need a laptop that'll suit the whole family, this is a great, affordable option. replacement battery for Acer Aspire 5750G-2312G50
With a pleasant blue finish to the lid and palmrests, the Aspire 5750G is a decent looking laptop. It's an obviously plastic build, and we did notice that some areas flexed when pushed or prodded, but it's unlikely to break unless you stomp on it or knock it flying off your desk. replacement battery for Acer Aspire 5750G

At 2.6kg, you can take the Aspire 5750G on the road when needed. The body is surprisingly slender, with a maximum thickness of just 34mm, so you shouldn't have much problem slipping it into a backpack or briefcase.
Just one look at the keyboard and it's obvious that this is an Acer laptop. When it comes to design, Acer has stuck with a raised panel of perfectly flat keys, separated by slim gaps. Acer Aspire 5750 battery charging
Touch typists will like the spacious layout, although the flat key definition won't suit all tastes. If you're used to beveled keys, we'd recommend a visit to your local Currys to test the Aspire 5750G before you buy.
Our only other complaint is those gaps. Crisp lovers beware, if you munch over this laptop the delicious cast-offs will infiltrate the insides. Acer Aspire 5742ZG battery charging

If you want some real processing and graphics firepower without forcing yourself into bankruptcy, the 15.6-inch Acer Aspire 5750G might be just what you're after. Our high-end version packs an Intel Sandy Bridge Core i7 processor, 750GB hard drive and 8GB of RAM, while an Nvidia Geforce GT 540M dedicated graphics card takes care of gaming. The specific model number of our machine is AS5750G-2638G75Mnkk, although you might also find it being sold as the LX.RCG02.048. Catchy. Acer Aspire 5742Z battery charging

Acer Aspire 5741-433G32Mn Charger
The 5750G's design is rather disappointing. Acer Aspire 5742G battery charging The laptop looks reasonably stylish, but it lacks the aluminium lid and chrome trim that you get on Acer's more expensive machines. The company's designers have tried to add a hint of class here and there with an etched pattern on the lid, and a two-tone colour scheme inside. But, despite the sturdy feel of the chassis, it just doesn't come across as a premium design, which is perhaps understandable given the fact that the laptop packs in such high-end components for a reasonably affordable price. Acer Aspire 5742 battery charging

Another area that's been compromised is the screen. We expect most gaming and entertainment-focused laptops to use high-resolution displays, but the 5750G's screen maxes out at 1,366x768 pixels. The display's viewing angles are on the tight side too, both on the horizontal and vertical axes, so you have to be careful how you position the screen if you want to be able to see what's happening properly. Acer Aspire 5741ZG battery charging

The speakers aren't much better. They're definitely below-par for an entertainment-focused laptop. Acer has added Dolby Advanced Audio support, so you can switch between 'video', 'music' and 'game' audio modes using a software-based control panel. Unfortunately, this just spreads out the stereo image slightly and doesn't add any weight to the bass, which is what the 5070G most sorely needs. Acer Aspire 5741Z battery charging

Hardware flair
Other aspects of the laptop are much better, though. The keyboard is excellent, for example. It uses the same isolated-key design seen on many of Acer's previous laptops. It's an interesting approach, with the flat keys perched atop narrow stems so they look like they're floating on the surface of the laptop. The keys' wide surface area and generous amount of travel means they're very comfortable to type on. The wide trackpad is excellent too, and the single long rocker button is responsive. Acer Aspire 5741G-5452G50Mnsk battery charging

There isn't an abundance of ports, but the 5070G packs in the most useful ones. You'll find three USB ports dotted around the chassis. The one on the left-hand edge supports 'sleep and charge', so you can charge devices like mobile phones and MP3 players even when the laptop is switched off. Also, one of the ports on the right-hand side supports USB 3.0 for much faster data transfer when used with compatible USB 3.0 kit. Acer Aspire 5741G-5452G50Mnkk battery charging

The 5750G doesn't skimp on storage either. It's kitted out with a cavernous 750GB hard drive, providing plenty of room for storing media and work-related files. There's also an SD card reader tucked under the front lip and a DVD rewriter on the right-hand side. Acer Aspire 5741G-5452G50Mnck battery charging

Blistering performance
The 5750G really excels when it comes to raw processing power. It's built around one of Intel's high-end Sandy Bridge Core i7-2630QM processors. It's a quad-core chip clocked at 2GHz, but it can be overclocked to as high as 2.9GHz in short bursts, when needed. Together with 8GB of RAM, this chip sliced through the PCMark05 benchmark test like a hot knife through butter, clocking up a blistering result of 8,241. It's one of the fastest laptops we've seen. Acer Aspire 5741G-434G64Bn battery charging

The 5750G's gaming performance is also top-notch. The killer trinity of the fast processor, abundant Ram and dedicated Nvidia GeForce GT 540M graphics card helped it rock its way to a lightning-fast result of 9,691. Acer Aspire 5741G-334G64Mn battery charging

The 5750G is equipped with a six-cell lithium-ion battery charging, but its high-end components mean it didn't perform impressively in the battery charging Eater Classic test, which runs the CPU at 100 per cent until the battery charging dies. The laptop managed to keep puffing away for 1 hour and 6 minutes before throwing in the towel. In comparison, most 15-inch laptops manage to reach the 1 hour and 20 minute mark. Conclusion
The Acer Aspire 5750G isn't the best-looking laptop around and its screen isn't wonderful either, but it really does delivery some serious processing power for a very reasonable amount of money. We quickly notice that Acer only concentrated on the innards when comparing the Aspire 5750G, which we tested about a year ago, with the new models. Acer Aspire 5741G-333G32Bn battery charging

Thus, the manufacturer uses the latest product range from Intel, respectively Nvidia. Acer Aspire 5741G-332G50Mn battery charging All models that we know of are equipped with a cutting edge dual core processor. That is the Core i3-2350M (2.3 GHz) or the Core i5-2450M (2.5-3.1 GHz), to be more precise. In return, the GeForce 610M or the considerably faster GeForce GT 630M is responsible for graphic calculations. The working memory is usually a four GB DDR3 RAM; the hard disk offers a capacity of 500 or 750 GB. The screen is the same in both models. Acer uses a glossy HD model (1366x768). A DVD burner and Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit won't be much of a surprise either. Acer Aspire 5741G battery charging

We grabbed one of the lower-priced alternatives with the Aspire 5750G-2354G50Mnkk for our review. The multimedia notebook goes over the (virtual) counter for starting at EUR 500. Acer Aspire 5741-5763 battery charging

The case has only undergone minor changes since our last check (see interfaces). The plastic surfaces, adorned with an attractive texture, make an acceptable quality impression. Acer Aspire 5741-5698 battery charging

Since the surfaces - with exception of the display bezel and the areas above the speakers - are matt, smudging remains within acceptable limits. There is no comparison to the sensitive high-gloss finish of other laptops. To pep up the looks, Acer gives the otherwise black 15 incher a silver-gray keyboard bezel. The workmanship is acceptable for EUR 500; slightly irregular edges can also be found among the competition. Acer Aspire 5741-434G50Mn battery charging

It's not possible to make a general statement about stability. While the bottom is fairly rigid and the top only yields under higher pressure (particularly in the battery charging's area and in the center of the wrist rest), the lid proves to be quite wobbly. Another shortcoming: Our test device emitted a slight creaking noise on the level of the little status lights. Acer Aspire 5741-433G32Mn battery charging
